Match Report by Ben Watson
Before the match there was some controversy regarding the size of the pitch. Even we thought that whoever was in charge of groundskeeping at Black Patch Park had marked it out wrong. However, we were told that the pitch was in fact marked at the minimum dimensions allowed, and the match went ahead. In the absence of Zewar - last season's captain - in defence, we handed the armband to D'Antoni in central midfield (this will change each week for a couple months probably) and brought in Idris to play in defence with Jordan. The rest of the team was the usual suspects. Nayan and Amrit on the flanks, and Tariq in goal.
Around 15 minutes in, Amrit opened the scoring after a clever pass from Nayan found him out wide, behind the defender, where he slotted the ball in across the 'keeper. Almost immediately after the goal, Kiaro switched with Akeem. Akeem had an immediate impact and got two goals fairly quickly after coming on. The second one being a particularly good finish.
At half time, we told the boys to relax a bit and try to keep the ball instead of going forward all the time and try to keep a clean sheet.
In the second half, they started defending a bit better, and kept the ball well for a while. However, around 10 minutes into the second half, we conceded a - very unlucky, but fair - penalty, which Bromford missed. Around five minutes later though, a defensive error led to a goal for Bromford. After conceding, we started attacking again, and created a few good chances, but the score stayed the same. At around 10 minutes to go, D'Antoni was hobbling a bit so I took him off and put Kiaro back on, but in centre midfield. About a minute after coming back on, he scored from the edge of the area to make it 4-1. A little later, D'Antoni came back on for Akeem, so Kiaro moved back into the striker position, and around 4 minutes before the end, he got his second, and the team's fifth.
Match ended 5-1, and we felt the entire team played well today, so nobody was awarded a merit or the man of the match award.
